Advertising Tips

I may not be the “best” person to ask as far as advertising / sponsoring, but after doing this for 5 months I think I have a little grasp on it. I’ve been approached by a number of bloggers looking to start their “ad” spaces or even advertising on other blogs and these are the things I have shared with them:

Start Small:

When I first started out, I started swapping buttons with other blogs that were about the same size as mine. I knew my blog was way too small to actually charge people an advertising fee, so this was the next best thing!

Invest in your Favorites:

Buy ads from those you trust and admire. When I first started, I supported some of the ladies that I “grew up” with in blogging. I still do! I also only advertise on blogs that I have a true interest in. I don’t want to advertise just to get more followers,  yes I admit it is nice to see that you are getting something out of the hard earned money you gave, but I also do it to support the other women out there trying to make a little extra on the side for their families.

Reach Out:

When you are first starting, email blogs that you love and adore. Tell them you are just starting and see if they have any discount codes they are currently offering or if they even want to advertise on your blog for FREE. This is a great way to get your name out there and to really support other bloggers. You will be very surprised at the generosity of the women out there. It’s truly amazing.

Be True:

When you start advertising, be sure to really know who is advertising on your page. It’s never fun to accept a sponsor and then later realize that your values and what you believe in vary greatly & then you have to make the hard decision to decline them after the fact. Trust me. I know. It’s awful. I felt like such a huge jerk even though I knew my heart was in the right place with the decision I had to make. Just do a little research and make sure that their blog is someone that you truly would support and love to share with your readers.

All in all, starting the sponsors/ads “thing” is a scary step, but it’s worth it if that’s what you want to do with your blog/site. Personally I really enjoy sharing the shops and blogs that are on my site. I value their hard work and dedication to their shops and blogs. Anyway, that’s just my 2 cents.
